Keeping true to the era the house was built in we wanted to mock the trim work throughout the house in the kitchen. We were fortunate enough to purchase rough cut maple wood and have it custom created on-site at Project Hillside. I was amused by the dust mounds that formed in the back yard from cutting the maple down. It will be stained to match the cabinets, scenically. It is debatable on why it wasn't stained before it was hung, with no true "right answer". The stain is coming from Kraft-maid so it should be a seamless match.
